Gathering Waters Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the mission and future of Gathering Waters Chartered Public School.
Our work sustains and strengthens accessible, Waldorf-inspired public education for families across the Monadnock region—now and for generations to come.
Our Board & Advisors
We are a group of dedicated community members working hard to connect Gathering Waters to its supporters. We are school board members, parents, grandparents, educators, and long-time stewards of Waldorf education in the Monadnock region.
Daniel is a founding faculty member of Gathering Waters, where he served in a variety of roles during the school’s formative years, including class teacher, Spanish teacher, jazz band leader, and interim lead administrator. A graduate of Antioch University’s Waldorf teacher education program, Daniel has more than a decade of experience teaching in Waldorf schools.
He currently serves as Youth Program Director at Camp Glen Brook in Marlborough, New Hampshire, where he integrates Waldorf pedagogy with outdoor, place-based learning.
As a Waldorf graduate himself, Daniel is deeply committed to both the educational and social missions of Waldorf schools. He believes these schools nurture not only academic excellence and artistic expression, but also critical thinking, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose. Through this integrated approach, students are empowered to understand their impact on the world and their responsibility to contribute positively to it.
Daniel hopes that graduates of Gathering Waters will go on to “create a world where it is easier to be good,” carrying forward the values of empathy, responsibility, and authentic self-expression.
Daniel Foster, Co-Chair
Sue Mahoney, Co-Chair
Gathering Waters Board of Trustees
Sue and her husband Doug stumbled into Waldorf education as her eldest child was entering elementary school, attracted to its warmth and measured pace, the integration of art and music, and the preservation of wonder—among many other qualities that she continues to discover as her children grow.
A seasoned creative director and business owner, Sue has over 25 years experience in communications, brand strategy and design, across a variety of industries and businesses of all sizes. She is counted on for delivering compelling, strategy-focused work with meticulous attention to detail, while juggling deadlines, budgets and the subjectivity inherent in creative work. Sue is especially motivated by the passion and independent spirit of entrepreneurs... and charter schools!
Sue lives in Westmoreland with her husband Doug, their four Gathering Waters students, and a menagerie of sheep, rabbits, chickens and gardens.
Janet Gordon
Gathering Waters Board of Trustees
Janet grew up in Miami, Florida. Having spent her junior year of college in Florence, Italy, surrounded by antiquities and works of the great masters of the Renaissance, her interest in art and architecture was awakened. Recognizing the beauty and intrinsic value of art, she sought an education that integrated the arts with an understanding of the human being.
After graduating with a degree in American Studies from the University of South Florida, she received a Masters in Education from Antioch College in New England. She fell in love with the granite landscape and changing seasons of New Hampshire. Soon after graduating, she became a founding teacher of the Monadnock Waldorf School.
She is currently retired and spends time with her grandchildren, as well as traveling, gardening and working in her art studio.
Gordon Mathews
Gathering Waters Board of Trustees
Gordon is a New Hampshire native. He and his wife Tiffany live in Keene and their two daughters have attended Gathering Waters since it opened in 2021. Gordon's connection to Waldorf education goes back to his grandmother, who was a founding class member of the High Mowing School in 1942. Gordon and Tiffany have valued the opportunity for their daughters to experience a similarly inspired Waldorf education generations later at Gathering Waters.
Gordon works as COO and in-house counsel at a Vermont-based telecommunications company and brings that expertise to his work with the Board of Trustees and Foundation.
